Five-star point guard Kobi Simmons won't sign early

Kobi Simmons has opted to wait out the recruiting process and doesn't plan to sign during the early signing period.

Five-star point guard Kobi Simmons won't sign during the initial signing period, his father -- Demond Stephens -- told Scout on Wednesday.

Simmons, a 6-foot-5 combination guard, took official visits to Kentucky, Ohio State and UNLV during the fall and at one point appeared primed for an early college decision.

Stephens even shot down the possibility of Simmons commiting early and waiting to sign until the second period.

"Nothing," he said. "[He's] wide open."

The Alpharetta (Ga.) St. Francis standout is regarded as Scout's No. 6 point guard and the No. 18 overall prospects in the 2016 recruiting class.

Simmons played on the adidas Uprising circuit for Atlanta Celtics during the spring and summer.
