Five-star 2016 prospect Dewan Huell will stay close to home and play for Jim Larrañaga, his coach Lawton Williams told Scout.
“He’s going to Miami,” he said.
Huell, a 6-foot-9, 215-pound power forward, picked the Hurricanes over South Carolina. He took official visits to both schools, as well as Florida State.
“It’s close to home,” Williams said. “He had a good feel for them. He thought the coaches would help him in his goal to become a NBA player.”
It wasn’t a foregone conclusion that Williams would sign during the early signing period, but Williams said Huell made the decision last night to go ahead and make the call.
A five-star prospect, Huell is ranked No. 25 overall and as the No. 5 power forward in the 2016 class.
“He’s going to bring toughness, athleticism and rebounding,” Williams told Scout.
Huell is Miami’s second 2016 pledge of the day, as Scout’s No. 44 ranked player Bruce Brown committed earlier in the day. Huell and Brown join Rodney Miller, Scout’s No. 90 prospect, to make up their current recruiting class.
Miami assistant Chris Caputo was the point man for the Huell recruitment.
