2016 power forward Cameron Lard verbally committed to Steve Prohm and Iowa State on Sunday, New Orleans Elite coach Gregg Holmes told Scout.
"He just committed to Iowa State," he said.
"Their style of play, it fits him real well," Holmes added. "He was looking for something where he could come in and play as a freshman. When he went up there he gelled real well with the team."
Lard, a standout at New Orleans (La.) Landry-Walker, took an unofficial visit to Iowa last week. According to Holmes, he also considered South Carolina, Alabama, Kansas State and Texas.
"We've always had a great relationship with coach Prohm and coach [William] Small," Holmes said. "He really enjoyed his time up there."
At 6-foot-8, Lard is known for his athleticism and ability to get up and down the floor.
"He just liked their style of play," he added. "He saw himself in the mold of the big kid (Jameel McKay) that is there now. He sees himself in that role."
Lard gives the Cyclones five commitments for the 2016 recruiting class. Lard joins high school standouts Jakolby Long and Solomon Young, as well as Junior College standouts Emmanuel Malou and Donovan Jackson to make up their current class.
