Class of 2018 point guard Robert Phinisee is someone who emerged in a major way this summer with Indiana Elite on the AAU circuit. The solid floor general picked up significant high-major interest, and now is looking to continue things with a strong sophomore season.
“I feel that I have been playing well,” said Phinisee. “I am focused on defense and getting steals and transitioning that to offense. Also my shot has been getting better.”
He continued, “My focus is just on winning and advancing farther in the tournament.”
Phinisee already has an offer from Indiana, and recently visited Bloomington for their Hoosier Hysteria event.
About the visit, Phinisee said, “It was great. The energy in the crowd was amazing. It wasn’t a real game, just a scrimmage, and the energy was amazing. I have a great relationship with all of the coaches at Indiana, especially (Tim) Buckley and (Tom) Crean.”
A few other schools are also in the mix with Phinisee beyond the Hoosiers.
“Purdue and Butler are the main other two, and (AAU coach) Coach (Mike) Fox has told me Xavier wants me to visit, but I haven’t spoken with any of their coaches,” explained Phinisee.
About Purdue, Phinisee said, “I talk to Coach (Jack) Owens and he likes how I can run a team, he just wants me to get to the basket more.”
When it comes to the Butler Bulldogs, Phinisee said, “I went to one of their exhibition games. It was my first visit there, and I liked how they played together. They have a really nice coaching staff and I like it there.”
For now Phinisee is in no hurry to make a college decision, and will continue to gain as much information as he can about the schools interested in him.
