Hokies Land Big Man

On Sunday, Winston (NC) Parkland big man Phillip McCandies raced home from his official visit to Virginia Tech just in time to play in the Raleigh Roundball Classic. As it turned out, it would be the last event McCandies would play in as an uncommitted senior.

Tech Lands Another One

At the Raleigh Roundball Classic, power forward Phillip McCandies denied denied and denied rumors that he had committed to Virginia Tech on his weekend visit. However, after having returned home and discussed this with his family, the big man made a decision.

According to the Roanoke Times, McCandies committed to Virginia Tech.

The 6-8, 205 pounder averaged 12 points and nearly 10 boards as a junior at Parkland. Another Virginia Tech player, Danny Gathings, and current NC State guard Clifford Crawford are alums of Parkland.

McCandies played well at the Raleigh Roundball. He had numerous mid-major offers. The 6-8 post man is athletic and on Sunday ran the court as best we'd ever seen him. Strength and weight training will be a major issue once he arrives in Blacksburg.
