Before the event started, it was clear that one of the biggest stars at the Chicago Elite Classic was going to be Oregon pledge M.J. Cage. The Mater Dei standout is a four-star in the top 100 and someone who has a world of potential.
In Mater Dei’s rout of Marian Catholic, Cage showed his major upside. He ran the floor very well, showed good hands, scored on the blow block, and disrupted the Marian Catholic offense with his ability to protect the rim.
As a team Mater Dei was excellent, and as a leader that is important to Cage.
“We made some mistakes but overall we are playing pretty well,” said Cage. “We are young with a lot of sophomores, so we are coming together and beginning to play better as a team.”
Individually Cage has always been a skilled center, but he is now working to expand his game even more.
“I am just trying to work on my dribbling and shooting,” noted Cage. “Those are two areas I am trying to improve on.”
After this season the next step for Cage will be to head to Oregon and be a member of the Ducks. It is something Cage is looking forward to, and he feels like he could be a perfect fit for them.
“It is real cool to know I am going to be there next year,” said Cage of Oregon. “It is really fun to watch them, and I think I am going to fit in well. They really need a big man and I think it is a great fit.”
