There has never been a question surrounding the motor and toughness of 2017 forward Christian Negron. Negron put that on display in a big way at the Chicago Elite Classic, and proved he is one of the more productive players in the state of Illinois in his class.
“I’ve been working to be better on the perimeter,” said Negron. “Just jump shooting, ball handling, and even defensively moving my feet and getting in passing lanes more. I’m just trying to expand my game away from the basket more.”
When it comes to recruiting, numerous schools remain in close contact with Negron.
“I hold offers from Iowa, DePaul, Virginia Tech, and Illinois,” said Negron. “I’ve been hearing from Wisconsin, Butler, Indiana, and St Louis has been talking to me recently.”
He continued, “This off season I got to visit Iowa and Indiana.”
Iowa has traditionally worked hard to get kids out of the state of Illinois, and there is no doubt that they are doing so again with Negron.
“It was the perfect day to go,” said Negron of his Iowa visit. “I saw a football game, it was really nice outside, and I love the staff and Coach (Fran) McCaffery. It was just a really good environment.”
When it comes to his Indiana visit, Negron said, “Indiana, I just saw Assembly Hall. There was basketball legacy all over there, and it was just a really cool experience.”
For now Negron is in no hurry to make any kind of college decision, but he is talking to schools frequently and has a good idea of what he is looking for in a future destination.
“Definitely I am looking for a place I can grow as a player, a place with history, and somewhere that has a great coach that can help me learn,” said Negron.
