One of the west’s top small forwards in 2018 is Timmy Allen, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing out of Mesa (Ariz.) Desert Ridge.
Scout watched Allen in action against Chandler (Ariz.) on Wednesday and the sophomore is building on a successful summer on the AAU circuit.
Allen has long arms and a very high basketball IQ; he’s a terrific passer and plays unselfish basketball. He’s best scoring on the drive but also gets points on the offensive glass and occasionally with his jumper. He uses his instincts and length on defense, where he guards multiple positions.
Most of Allen’s goals right now are team related.
“We’re chasing a ring but taking it one step at a time,” Allen said. “We’re trying to get as many wins as we can.”
Recruiting wise, the most recent offer for Allen came from Nebraska.
“It was a big because of the conference they’re in,” Allen said. “I’m still learning about them.”
Allen briefly discussed what he likes about the schools showing interest.
Arizona: “I know Sean Miller is a really good coach and lets the team run. I’m going to visit them on Sunday.”
Arizona State: “They have a nice facility and good coaches. I like the people there.”
San Diego State: “I like the coaches; they’re good people. I like their facilities.”
UCLA: “I’ve met the coach and he’s a cool guy.”
The sophomore is currently more focused on his game than recruitment.
“I’m not thinking about it right now,” he said. “I’ll worry about it when the time comes.”
