Coaches putting in effort with Top 75 2017 wing Charles O’Bannon, Jr.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz - Charles O'Bannon, Jr. is ranked 61st in Scout's 2017 Top 100 and a number of coaches are recruiting the four-star wing accordingly.

One of the West Coast’s top wings in 2017 is Las Vegas Bishop Gorman’s Charles O'Bannon Jr.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound two/three is Scout’s 61st ranked prospect in the class due to his size, length and ability to impact the game with his jumper, something that he’s trying to expand on.

“I’m getting my teammates involved more now,” O’Bannon said. “I want to fill up the stat sheet in all areas besides scoring. I’m trying to improve in all aspects. I want to do a little more of everything and not be one-dimensional.”

The four-star prospect’s recruitment is still wide open, with a number of coaches working hard trying to build relationships with him.

“I love (Texas) coach Shaka (Smart). He’s a great guy and we talk quite often. It’s more than basketball when we talk. We’re building a good relationship.

“(NC State) coach (Mark) Gottfried and (Jeff) Dunlap and I are close. I took a visit out there and it was cool. I’ve been talking to Cal coach (Wyking) Jones and coach (Cuonzo) Martin. We have a good relationship.

“I talk to coach Book (Richardson) and coach (Sean) Miller at Arizona. I just talked to (UCLA) coach (Steve) Alford; I talk to him and coach (David) Grace.”

Right now, three schools are putting in the most work in trying to land O’Bannon.

“Texas, UNLV and NC State,” O’Bannon listed as the schools recruiting him the hardest.

O’Bannon is taking a proactive approach to his recruitment, making sure to keep an eye on the schools recruiting him.

“I just need to keep looking at schools and see what fits me,” O’Bannon said. “I’m watching a lot of games this year and seeing if they get up and down and fit my playing style, coaches, location, all that stuff.”

As of now, there are no plans for O’Bannon to make a decision anytime soon.

“I’m in no rush at all,” he said.
