2018 PG Maka Ellis displays high basketball IQ at Tarkanian Classic

LAS VEGAS - Maka Ellis used the first day of the Tarkanian Classic to help prove himself as a talented 2018 point guard with a high basketball IQ.

The Tarkanian Classic is always a good opportunity to see a combination of known commodities and talented underclassmen and Wednesday has been no exception.

One of the more intriguing young prospects in attendance was Maka Ellis, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound 2018 point guard from Las Vegas Sierra Vista.

Ellis has a really nice feel for a young point guard and very good size for the position. He sees the court very well and uses his vision to create for others.

The sophomore uses his handle to set his teammates up for easy baskets and can also create his own shot.

“I see myself as a bigger point guard who likes to distribute and score,” Ellis said. “I can drive, hit jumpers and I like to use both hands evenly. I’m working on lateral quickness, speed and agility.”

Utah State and New Mexico State have offered Ellis with UCLA, San Diego State, Cal, UC Irvine and Oregon State showing interest.

“I’m mostly looking for location and academics in a school,” Ellis said.
