The player who opened eyes more than any other at the DMV Tip-Off was Antwan Walker. At 6-foot-7 with long arms, nice athleticism, and a rapidly improving skill set, Walker has the look of a late bloomer who could really emerge on the high-major radar.
In his 26 point effort for his team, Walker did a little bit of everything on offense, and then blocked seven shots on defense. Overall it was an impressive effort and the continuation of what has been an extremely strong senior season.
“The season is going really well,” said Walker. “The coaches are doing a good job and we are undefeated, so it is good.”
He continued, “I am working on my ball handling and my ability to shoot the ball to the three point line.”
Since the summer things have picked up on the recruiting trail for Walker, and that means a major increase in scholarship offers.
“There have been some new offers schools like St. Bonaventure St. Joseph’s, Manhattan, Hofstra, and James Madison,” said Walker.
One question for Walker surrounds prep school. There has been some buzz that he would go that route and re-classify to 2017.
About that Walker said, “I haven’t made a decision on that yet. My mom, my coaches, and I will decide what is best for me and my future and go from there.”
When it does indeed come time to actually pick a college, Walker says he knows what he will be looking for.
“I am looking for a place that will put me in a position to develop and then hopefully move on to professional basketball,” said Walker.
