Four schools lead for Top 60 2017 Seattle SG Jaylen Nowell

Jaylen Nowell, Scout's 54th ranked prospect in the 2017 class, favors four schools at this point in his recruiting process. The four-star Seattle shooting guard gives the latest in his recruitment.

One of the top scorers in the 2017 class comes from Seattle Garfield in 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard Jaylen Nowell.

Scout’s 54th ranked 2017 prospect, Nowell is a relentless scorer who gets the majority of his buckets from midrange and in.

While Nowell has had a productive season for one of the West Coast’s most talented teams in Garfield, he’s committed to improving.

“I’m doing a lot of good things like getting other people involved more but I’m always more focused on what I need to get better at than what I’m doing well,” Nowell said.

“I need to get better on defense and my jumper has been off lately so I need to get in the gym and make sure I get it back.”

The four-star prospect listed four schools he’s most interested in at this point.

UCLA, Cal, Washington and Oregon are the schools I talk to the most. Those four stand out,” Nowell said, before discussing what he likes about each program.

UCLA: “I’ve been watching them since I was little. I’ve always liked their style of play. I could see myself there.”

California: “I talk to the coaches a lot and they all seem like really good guys that I would like to be around.”

Washington: “They’re right by me and I’ve been to every game. I can really see myself there. The style of play seems to fit right in with mine; I really like that school.”

Oregon: “I talk to the coaches a lot and I feel like they would be a good team to go to.”

For now, Nowell is more focused on his season than his recruitment.

“I’m still taking my time,” he said. “I’m going to keep working on my game, hopefully win a state championship and hopefully prove ourselves as one of the best teams in the country.”
