Given his size, solid athleticism, and excellent skill level it is no surprise that Brian Bowen is one of the most highly recruiting wings in the class of 2017. Now Bowen continues to refine his game while also working through the recruiting process.
“The season is going great,” said Bowen. “I love the school overall both academically and with basketball. Also I think I am just playing well. I am attacking more and driving the ball and making plays off the dribble.”
He continued, “Also I am really taking pride in rebounding the ball. Any time I can get the chance I am rebounding the ball and pushing the break.”
Currently Bowen’s school list reads like a who’s who of college basketball.
“I have been hearing from Michigan State, Michigan, Duke, UCLA, NC State, Florida State, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, and a few other schools,” said Bowen.
As the cousin of former Spartans star Jason Richardson, many have speculated that Michigan State is in a solid position with Bowen, and he says he is building a good relationship with Tom Izzo and the program.
“It is a great relationship and they have a great team with a Hall of Fame coach,” said Bowen. “Our relationship gets stronger every day that we talk, and I’m looking forward to getting there for a visit and just getting to know them better.”
Another Hall of Fame coach is Mike Krzyzewski, and the Blue Devils have also turned up the heat recently on Bowen.
“I talk to Coach (Jon) Scheyer about every other day,” noted Bowen. “The relationship I have with them continues to get stronger. He says that Coach K is going to come check me out, and I just like what they have to say.”
While Bowen is now in Indiana at La Lumiere, his home-state is Michigan, and the Wolverines are also beginning to turn up the heat in this recruitment.
“I talked to Coach (Bacari) Alexander,” explained Bowen. “We have been texting a lot, and he wants to get me down to campus so I can visit and they can get to know me and I can get to know them. So that is kind of the next step with Michigan.”
For now Bowen says he is just in the information gaining stage of things, and isn’t in a hurry to make any kind of college decision.
“It is going to be a long process,” said Bowen. “I just want to continue to build relationships with coaches and see who has the most interest in me and learn as much as I can about the schools.”
