Montverde (Fla.) Academy played multiple times at the Hoop Hall Classic and Simi Shittu certainly took advantage of both opportunities to play on a big stage.
On Monday, Shittu, a 6-foot-8 power forward, went for 24 points on 12-for-19 shooting and added 10 rebounds in a match up with Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon. Shittu said he was motivated by going up against 2017 standout Cody Riley.
“A little bit, because I know he’s a top player and I’m not ranked or anything yet,” Shittu said.
Shittu is just a 2018 prospect, but actually is ranked No. 14 overall by Scout. Shittu impressed at the Hoop Hall Classic with his ability to run the floor and get end-to-end in a hurry. He’s a good athlete that gets off the ground quickly. He flashed good hands and made some tough catches in traffic. He also finished well in the paint, where he scored all of his points, and even connected a pair of jump hooks.
While it’s still very early, Shittu claims scholarship offers from Baylor, Illinois, Kansas State, New Mexico and Oregon. He also has interest from LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Clemson and Florida.
Shittu, who averaged 13.8 points for Canada’s National Team in the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, said he’s yet to take any college visits.
