Onyeka Okongwu emerges; nabs UCLA, USC offers

CERRITOS, Calif. -- Onyeka Okongwu excelled for Chino Hills (Calif.) High over the weekend and earned a pair of high major scholarship offers.

Onyeka Okongwu, a 6-foot-9 post prospect, had quite the weekend.

First Okongwu led Chino Hills (Calif.) High to a hard fought victory over Torrance (Calif.) Bishop Montgomery on Saturday, then he picked up his first two high major scholarship offers from UCLA, who watched him in that game, and USC.

Although Chino Hills has the Balls brothers, it was Okongwu who was the talk of the Fairfax State Preview Classic. Earlier in the year, Okongwu was more reserved and didn't play with supreme confidence, but in just a six week span that has quickly changed.

Okongwu is blessed with good size, tremendous length and impressive athleticism. Against Bishop Montgomery he was active and aggressive on both ends of the floor. He played with energy, blocked shots and pursued rebounds.

Although he's not real skilled at this stage, Okongwu impacted the game offensively by looking to dunk everything around the rim and finishing off plays from close range. He also ran end to end looking to get easy baskets around the basket.

In all Okongwu finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks.
