Five-star Billy Preston is one of the most naturally gifted prospects in the class. Preston has the size, athleticism, and skill to be one of the top prospects in the country, and the 2017 forward is working to put it all together on the court.
“I think we are playing good,” said Preston of his season. “We took some losses early, but I think that was a team chemistry thing, but we are getting better as a team and things are going well now.”
He continued, “I am working on everything. I am working on my post-up game and everything like that.”
On the recruiting trail some of the top schools in the country are very interested in Preston.
“I am hearing from a little bit of everybody,” said Preston. “USC, Maryland, Baylor, Arizona, Arizona State, and some more schools like UConn and Kansas.”
Recently Preston had the chance to visit both Arizona and Arizona State, and he came away impressed with both campuses.
About Arizona, Preston said, “It was great. I went around Christmas Break. There weren’t many students on campus so I didn’t see the excitement part of it, but I liked the campus a lot, it was great.”
When it comes to Arizona State, Preston responded, “Coach Bobby Hurley is a great coach. He gave me the whole rundown of the program and how they do things. I got to see a practice and the whole thing was real organized, and I am an organized person, so it was good.”
Another school that has been very much in the mix that Preston has seen is Maryland. The Terrapins are making Preston a top priority and he is building a good relationship with the staff in College Park.
“Coach (Mark) Turgeon is a player’s coach for sure,” said Preston. “I am a coachable player so I am going to listen, and listening to Coach Turgeon is great. He tells me he lets his players have freedom based on their skill set and not their height, and just that I could help the program in a lot of different ways.”
For now Preston is focused on finishing the high school year strong, and will begin to focus on his recruitment following the spring and summer.
