Davidson Lands Recruit; Israel Leaves Oak Hill

Ian Johnson will probably never forget the date he made his commitment to Davidson. On Sept. 11, Johnson opted to make a commitment to Bob McKillop's program. Johnson is a senior at Oak Hill Academy. Also included is an update on Omari Israel who had been at Oak Hill.

Davidson Lands First Recruit

Ian Johnson, a 6-9, 200 pound big man from Charlottesville, Va., committed to Davidson on Sept. 11. Johnson played last year at Charlottesville (VA) Albemarle High.

"He committed yesterday afternoon," Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said. "He didn't really do anything officially. He just came in and called Bob McKillop."

Last year, the left-handed post player averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds at Albemarle. He was said to be considering Richmond, Pennsylvania, William & Mary, Holy Cross, Boston University and James Madison.

"He's going to definitely play," Smith said. "He can play four or five. He shoots it well and scores inside with jump hooks with both hands. He doesn't back down to anybody."

In other Oak Hill news, forward Omari Israel has left the school. The junior is likely to return to Wheaton (MD) Good Counsel.

"He didn't think he was going to play enough and wanted to be a 3-man," Smith said.
