Gomez Headed To C-USA

David Gomez was ready to make it official. This week, the power forward from Louisiana opted for a school not so far away from his home.

Shortly after the April adidas Texas Classic, there was a rumor circulation that Sports Academy power forward David Gomez was close to picking Tulane. Well, just about four months later, wouldn't you know it, he's made his decision.

We reached Gomez shortly after his family vacation and he confirmed that he'll be joining Shawn Finney's Tulane program in the fall of 2004.

"I tried to keep it really open for a while but I'm comfortable with them," Gomez said. "It's not too far from home and it's kind of close but not too close."

Gomez didn't play with Sports Academy in last month's AAU nationals but we've seen him with the team in the past. He's got a strong body and does work inside. However, he's been expanding his game since the summer.

"I've been really working on my individual skills as far as my outside shooting. I'm already used to playing the post but this summer I've spent a lot of time getting used to playing on the perimeter."

Gomez said that he also considered Rice, Vanderbilt and Georgia. He averaged 25 points and 9 rebounds a game as a junior. He was named first team all-state and first-team all-metro.
