One of the best 2018 prospects from the Bay Area comes from Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O’Dowd in Naseem Gaskin.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound combo guard is a player with a high upside and his AAU coach with Team Arsenal, Kelvin Potts, is pleased with his development.
“He’s attacking, he’s hard to stop off dribble penetration and he’s a high level scorer,” Potts said. “He led NorCal guards in scoring in 2018, averaging almost 22. He played really well to end the season.
“He’s working on his point guard instincts and his passing ability is good but we’re working on different types of passes. His athleticism has really grown over the last year.”
“Boise State was his first offer,” Potts said. “They discovered his talent at time where he was working really hard to get an offer.”
Nevada is another one of the schools that have been prioritizing Gaskin early.
“He knows the coach; they’ve been really involved and have been to open gyms and that stuff,” Potts said. “He really likes the program.”
It’s still early into Gaskin’s recruiting process.
“He’s wide open,” Potts said. “He just wants a family type environment, somewhere he knows is going to have his back and develop him.”
