One player who really stood out at the recent NY2LA Swish N Dish was Mac Irvin Fire wing Justin Smith. Always loaded with athleticism, Smith looked more skilled and assertive, and with that his recruitment continues to progress.
After playing Robin to five-star Jalen Brunson’s Batman as a sophomore, Smith knew he had to be the man as a junior for his high school team, and that helped him improve on his game.
“It was a good season,” noted Smith. “It was a learning experience stepping into a new role. I learned how to play more aggressively and learned how to create my own shot.”
On the recruiting trail Smith has several offers already with numerous other schools coming in to check out his progress.
“I have been hearing from a lot of people, the people who have offered like Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue, DePaul, Rice, Wisconsin and Wake Forest,” said Smith.
He continued, “Also I am hearing from schools like Notre Dame, Marquette, Xavier, California, Villanova, Michigan State, and a couple of others.”
According to Smith he was able to make unofficial visits to both Marquette and Indiana during the season, and he was impressed with both.
About Indiana, Smith said, “It was a great atmosphere and crowd. When I was there, there weren’t any students but it was still full. The fact that the fans are there every game shows the culture they have there.”
When it comes to his visit to Marquette, Smith said, “It was a great atmosphere. I’ve never been there before, so it was good to see the game and look around and get a feel for things at Marquette.”
If Smith continues his strong April look for his stock to go up even more, and for many of the schools on his list to make him a priority target.
