Class of 2018 guard Dwayne Cohill is one of the higher upside players in the Midwest. With his combination of size, athleticism, and raw talent, Cohill is already one of the more heavily recruited players in the area, and has numerous schools on his radar already.
“I am working on the switch from the wing to the point guard,” explained Cohill. “I have been working on my outside game and also my defense against quicker guards. Beyond that I’ve been focused on improving my handle and everything.”
On the recruiting trail Cohill has attracted serious attention, and has numerous high level offers already.
“I have offers from West Virginia, Xavier, Penn State, Duquesne, Toledo, and Youngstown State,” he listed.
Cohill has visited most of the schools on his list, including West Virginia and Xavier.
About the trip to West Virginia, Cohill said, “It was a real nice visit. I thought it was just going to be a real country school, but when I got there it was beautiful and everything was great. Everybody around welcomed me, and I have a good relationship with the coaches.”
Cohill continued about West Virginia, “I am going to try and get back down there soon, and our relationship is real tight.”
When it comes to Xavier, his relationship with the coaching staff and the duration of the recruitment are both big for Cohill.
“They’ve been on me since going into ninth grade, and then they offered me this past summer,” said Cohill. “I have been down there three or four times so my relationship with them is really good. I haven’t talked to Coach (Chris) Mack a ton, but I talk to Coach (Travis) Steele a lot, and I have a really good relationship with Coach Steele.”
In the future Cohill hopes to make a pair of Big Ten visits to Michigan and Purdue. He has already been to both schools before, but wants to get a second look.
About Michigan, Cohill said, “The campus is real nice. I went there when they played Michigan State and the atmosphere for that game was something I’d love to be a part of. Also Coach (John) Beilein and the coaching staff, they are great.”
When it comes to Purdue, Cohill said, “Coach (Matt) Painter is a good coach. When I visited I liked the coaches and players. I was there for their Elite Camp, and I know I definitely want to go back next year.”
For now Cohill is just taking everything in stride and is focused on having a big summer playing with Ohio Basketball Club.
