JBC International: Top Performers

BROOKLYN - Who were the top performers of the Jordan Brand Classic International Game? The Scout staff breaks it down.

R.J. Barrett has very good size at 6-foot-6 and is an extremely versatile talent. Even though he's listed as a wing, he has outstanding vision and can absolutely play on the ball due to his passing ability. Barrett's ball skills and scoring ability are also very good, as the lefty has the body control to take opponents off the dribble or pull up and his midrange jumpers. Barrett's size and length will allow him to guard multiple positions at the next level. Barrett is just a freshman but one of the most promising prospects in high school basketball, regardless of class. Barrett finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting.

Recruiting: Duke and plenty of others

Charles Bassey is a 6-foot-10 freshman with very good size and length. He displayed good athleticism for his size and position; running the floor well, along with going up and grabbing rebounds. With good hands and pretty good touch, he was not only getting tough rebounds and catching tough passes, but finishing those plays with layups and put-back dunks. Bassey also displayed the talent to step away from the basket and put the ball on the ground and even pass.

With few skills with his back to the basket right now, he utilized his mobility, athleticism, and ability to put the ball on the floor to face-up and attack his defenders, getting plenty of trips to the rim and free throw line. His jump shot has pretty good form and he’ll work his way into making that a threat in the future. Defensively, he was solid. With his size and length not only did he get some blocked shots but altered many more around the rim as well as jumpers. Bassey has a chance to become an elite defensive presence and is tracking as one of the top prospects in the 2019 class. Bassey finished with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting and 12 rebounds in the game.

Recruiting: Texas A&MLSU

One of the more intriguing guard prospects in the Jordan Brand Classic International game was 6-foot-3 point guard Andrew Nembhard. A native of Canada, Nembhard obviously has good size for his position, but he also showed good quickness and ability to get into the paint. Nembhard was aggressive off the dribble and looked to drive the ball when he had opportunities. With that said, he didn’t force things and showed a good feel. Nembhard has good instincts and is a gifted passer. He finished with 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting and three assists.
