One of the West Coast’s top small forwards in 2017 runs with KC Run GMC on the Under Armour circuit in D'shawn Schwartz.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound prospect from Colorado Springs (Colo.) Sand Creek made his name at the USA Basketball Junior National Team Minicamp last fall and he feels he’s only improved from there.
“My junior year went pretty good,” Schwartz said. “As a team it didn’t go as planned but individually I feel like I got a lot better from last year.
“I think I’m getting to the rim, I’m playing hard and rebounding pretty well. I’m working on my jumper; it’s a little inconsistent right now. I want to keep getting better; that’s all I can do. I’ll keep watching film and see where I can improve.”
Scout’s 66th ranked 2017 prospect said that three schools lead for him.
“CU, Stanford’s new coaches are talking to me and UConn are probably the best ones right now,” Schwartz said, before breaking down all three programs.
Colorado: “It’s great. I’ve been up there a few times and it’s going well. I have a great relationship with them.”
Stanford: “It’s Stanford. That’s a great school. Their new coaching staff seems to be pretty cool. They just started talking to me.”
UConn: “I like their name – it’s a big school – and Jeremy Lamb went there; he’s one of my favorite players.”
Schwartz’ plan is to check out some programs before he makes a decision.
“Probably in the fall,” he gave as a timetable. “I want to go on some visits and maybe commit before the season.”
