One of the better pure scorers on the wing is Jermaine Samuels. Playing with Expressions Elite, Samuels had a tremendous Saturday at the EYBL scoring 18 points on only 11 shots and also contributing six rebounds.
Samuels has a good combination of size, length, and athleticism, and he is working hard to become a more well-rounded player.
“I have been playing pretty good,” said Samuels. “I am pretty content with my play. I am focused on getting stronger and improving my ball handling, so I think things have been going well.”
On the recruiting side of things Samuels has kept a fairly low profile, but he says several schools are chasing him hard with a few new coaches showing up so far this spring.
“I haven’t paid too much attention to who has been at my games, but I have definitely noticed Coach (Mike) Brey from Notre Dame and Coach (Jim) Boeheim from Syracuse,” said Samuels. “One of the main schools that has been keeping in contact is Villanova, and I am also hearing from Texas.”
When asked about Texas, Samuels said, “They are an elite program and they have a great coach. Also it is a good school. I think their style of play is also really good.”
Villanova has been a very consistent factor in his recruitment, and the national champs have made an impression on Samuels.
“I like the way they play and the atmosphere there,” said Samuels of Villanova. “They have a lot of positive things going on there, so I lie that situation.”
When it does come time for a decision, and one isn’t expected until the end of the summer, Samuels knows what he is looking for in a school.
“I am looking for a place that would want me even if I didn’t play basketball,” said Samuels. “Also a place that I know can help me develop to get to where I want to be, which is the highest level.”
