adidas: 2017 forward John Walker emerges

SUWANEE, Ga. -- The evaluation period provides opportunities to see new prospects and check in on tips of guys that the Scout team has yet to see. One of those tips checked out this weekend, as 2017 forward John Walker passed the evaluation test.

Marland Lowe’s Texas Pro team also has a couple emerging prospects and his 2016 team isn’t any different.

Over the weekend it was 6-foot-8 John Walker that caught my eye.

A long, lanky combination forward, Walker proved to be an intriguing and versatile prospect. He played both inside and on the perimeter and proved to be effective in both roles.

Walker is capable of making shots from three and is shooting 37.5% from three through eight games in the adidas Gauntlet. The form on his shot looks good. But he also looks to face up, pump fake and drive the ball to the rim. A good athlete, Walker is active around the basket too. Now his lack of strength does come in to play at times, but his versatility and length help make up for it.

To date, only Houston has offered him a scholarship, according to Lowe. Texas, Rice Texas A&M and a handful of others watched him on Friday night, but there interest in him has been minimal. Walker also mentioned Boise State as one of the schools that have shown interest.
