One of the most exciting prospects in the 2019 class is Scottie Lewis. A big time athlete out of the state of New Jersey, Lewis is already attracting high-major offers, and continues to work on his game.
“I started off slow in New York, but I have picked things up,” said Lewis. “I am back in the flow, hitting some jump shots, and just playing at the pace I need to.”
He continued, “I am working to become a guard. I was playing the 4 and the 5 as a young player, but if I want to play at a high level I have to be a guard,” noted Lewis. “So I am just working on my jump shot and my handle right now.”
At around 6-foot-4, that transition has already occurred somewhat as Lewis is shooting the ball better than ever and looking comfortable on the wing. With that improvement have come a lot of offers.
Schools such as St. John’s, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Maryland, Villanova, Florida, and Notre Dame have issues scholarships with others showing significant interest.
The two schools that have been the most consistent in their pursuit at this early stage have been local programs St. John’s and Seton Hall.
About St. John’s Lewis said, “I grew up in Queens, so I have always watched St. John’s. It is a good thing to have an offer from them and have them recruiting me so hard.”
When it comes to Seton Hall, Lewis added, “I am good friends with Isaiah Whitehead. It is good to have them recruiting in the area and being home, so being around would be big if I went there.”
Obviously with it being so early in his recruitment Lewis isn’t even thinking about a decision. Still he has attracted serious early attention, and he is learning to deal with that as it goes.
“It is exciting,” noted Lewis. “After a while you start to get used to it. The key is just to stay grounded and play your game.”
