Justin Roberts had a big Friday night at the Spiece Run N Slam

FT. WAYNE, Ind - Class of 2017 point guard Justin Roberts shined on night one at the Spiece Fieldhouse.

The Spiece Run N Slam went to a super pool set up last year which led to some more intriguing first round matchups at the event on Friday night. With that some highly competitive and intense games take place and some prospects rise to the occasion. One who did on Friday night was Justin Roberts.

During the first two sessions of the EYBL, Roberts was solid averaging 10 points per game and having one of the top free throw rates in the league. On Friday he played the role of distributor and scorer, and was key in a first half run that gave Spiece Indy Heat a lot of separation against Legit Basketball.

“I am just working on my shot and my leadership,” said Roberts. “We are playing well in the EYBL right now, and we have to keep it up. We have two sessions left, so as a team we have to keep it up, and individually I have to keep improving.”

On the recruiting trail Roberts has interest from both mid-major and high-major schools, and several programs are picking up the pace.

“I’m hearing from Toledo and Michigan a lot,” said Roberts. “DePaul, IUPUI, and Bradley have offered me. I am also hearing from Ohio University, Dayton, and a few other schools.”

DePaul has been putting in a lot of work with Roberts recently, and with that the Blue Demons are becoming one of his favorite options.

“DePaul is showing me a lot of love right now,” said Roberts. “I am building a good relationship with their coaches and it is definitely one of my top two or three schools.”

Another high-major school that has been picking up the attention with Roberts is Michigan.

About the Wolverines, Roberts said, “They have a good guard system. Xavier Simpson is there and they want me to come in and lead when he is out and things like that. I know they are on me real heavy, they have asked my for my transcript, and they have spoken with my high school and AAU coach every week, so they are on me heavy.”

When it comes to the Dayton Flyers, Roberts said, “They are interested. They are waiting to offer right now. Dayton told me they don’t want to offer too many guys real quick, so they are going to continue to watch me and I’m interested in them.”

For now Roberts is taking things slow in the process and is focused on getting better and improving his outside shooting while leading Spiece to the Peach Jam.
