Aaron Thompson picks Pittsburgh

Kevin Stallings picked up the first pledge of his 2017 recruiting class over the weekend by adding Team Takeover guard Aaron Thompson to the mix.

2017 point guard Aaron Thompson committed to Pittsburgh over the weekend, according to Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI coach Glenn Farrello.

Thompson was originally recruited by new Pittsburgh coach Kevin Stallings at Vanderbilt. He had visited the Commodores in the early spring. Once Stallings took the Pittsburgh job, Thompson, a 6-foot-2 guard, immediately became a target and quickly took an unofficial trip to campus.

Thompson selected the Panthers over strong interest from Temple, Nebraska, Virginia Tech and SMU.

Thompson is regarded as a four-star prospect and is ranked No. 23 at the point guard position.

"Aaron is a tough hard-nose type point guard with all the leadership intangibles you want in a floor general," Farrello said. "[He's] one of the best defenders at his position in his class, has exceptional court vision and a pass first mentality. All coaches describe him as a winner."

Thompson is Pittsburgh's first verbal commitment of the class.
