Ratliff To Take Unofficial Visit

A.J. Ratliff has just over a handful of schools remaining on his list. However, he's making an unofficial visit this coming weekend and that could go a long way with his recruitment.

A.J. Ratliff played exactly the way we thought he would this summer. Coming into the July period, we valued him as a Top 50 prospect and basically that's the way he played.

"I think I did good," Ratliff said. "I did real well. At Nike Camp I though I showed out there and a little more in Vegas and then in Orlando I started getting tired."

Here it is, just two weeks out of the summer and Ratliff has his list whittled down some. Indiana, Kansas, Iowa, North Carolina State, Marquette, Purdue and Xavier are in the mix. Depending on the school, Ratliff sits in different slots on each of those school's wish lists.

This coming weekend, he's taking an unofficial visit that could shape his recruitment.

"I'm going to IU for an unofficial visit this weekend," Ratliff said. "Me and Coach Davis are going to have a talk."

Said talk is likely to focus on Ratliff's position. Up until this point, the Hoosiers had been recruiting Ratliff as a two guard. Obviously, with James Hardy and Robert Vaden already committed, IU has some guys at that slot. But, Ratliff is starting to see a change in IU's view of him.

"They offered me as a two guard, but I think he's going to offer me to play the point."

Indiana could wind up being very difficult to beat for Ratliff is all goes well this weekend. Ratliff himself confirmed that. "It would be [tough to beat them. It's close to home, they have a good [2004] class coming in and the tradition with basketball is big here.

"It would be hard to say no."

Ratliff said that he's been talking about Kansas, Iowa and North Carolina State for official visits but the schools that are located within a two-hour drive from home can expect to receive unofficial visits.

For now, all eyes will be focused on IU this weekend and what happens in Bloomington.
