One of the better shooters in the Southeast in the 2017 class is Elias Harden. Harden, who had a tremendous spring with Game Elite, has picked up a lot of recruiting interest, and recently made an unofficial visit with several others coming up.
“It was a pretty good spring,” said Harden. “I started off pretty well in Dallas and then I continued doing well in Atlanta, and I picked up some new interest.”
When asked what he improved with his game, Harden said, “My shooting got a lot better and I was better getting to the rim and in the mid-range. Also I worked hard on making my teammates better.”
On the recruiting trail a lot of new offers have come in for Harden.
“I am hearing a lot from Xavier, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Georgia, West Virginia, Memphis, Florida, Maryland, and Texas A&M. Also I have offers from Arizona State and College of Charleston. All of the schools interested in me have offered except West Virginia and Memphis.”
In terms of visits, Harden said, “I just took a visit to Auburn Saturday, I’m going to Georgia Friday, Xavier on the June 18, and then when I’m in Ohio I’ll go to Cincinnati as well.”
About the visit to Auburn, Harden said, “It was pretty good. They had a few recruits down there. I didn’t play because my knee was bothering me, so I just watched and talked to the coaches and trainers who gave me some tips on how to get healthy. Coach (Bruce) Pearl and Chad Dollar, they were just telling me they would be continuing to watch me in July, and that they liked my game.”
Up next is a trip to Georgia, and Harden is looking forward to seeing the campus.
“I like Coach (Mark) Fox and Coach Yasir (Rosemond),” said Harden of the Bulldogs. “I talk to them a lot. I just want to meet the players and continue to build a good relationship with the coaches.”
After visiting Georgia, Harden will make his way to Cincinnati to check in on Xavier and the UC Bearcats.
About Xavier, Harden said, “Coach (Mike) Pegues and Coach (Chris) Mack they are talking a lot about how they need a scoring guard in this class. They have been recruiting me pretty hard and I talk to them a lot. I haven’t talked to them in person, so I am looking forward to that. We have had good talks and communicated via text.”
When it comes to the Bearcats, Harden said, “I haven’t talked to Coach (Mick) Cronin but I have talked to Coach (Larry) Davis about the school. They came to see me when we were getting start the high school season and I talked to him. I have talked to him a lot.”
For now Harden says he is taking things slowly, but he does want to get things narrowed down in the near future.
“I’m just going to try and take as many visits as I can,” said Harden. “I will narrow my list down in a little while, but I am definitely still open.”
