Harvard reeled in their first pledge of the 2017 class late Thursday, when Mario Haskett, of Chesterfield (Va.) L.C. Bird, opted for the Crimson.
“I picked Harvard because it's a place where I believe my game can develop and have an opportunity to get to the next level,” Haskett told Scout.
“Also it's an opportunity for me and my family and my brothers to be set for life,” he added. “It's more than a hoop move.”
Haskett selected Harvard over interest from Virginia Tech, Yale, Providence, VCU and Rice.
A 6-foot-3 guard, Haskett averaged 11.7 points as a junior, but it’s not offense that Haskett hangs his hat on.
“I can not only bring leadership, but aggressiveness and that dog that just want to win. [I’m] willing to sacrifice for my teammates. My defense is my moneymaker though. I can do it all but that's sets up my game well.”
Haskett will take an official visit to Harvard the weekend of September 17th, which is the same weekend five-star big man Wendell Carter will visit.
While Haskett has committed to Harvard, he still has to go through Harvard’s admissions process.
