The state of Texas is somewhere that players can sometimes be overlooked, and until now Jase Febres has been one of them. An injury limited his exposure in the spring, but at the adidas Gauntlet Finale he has been impressive, and more and more coaches are beginning to take notice.
“During the spring I had a hip injury and really didn’t get to play in Atlanta or Dallas, so I am just trying to show what I can do and prove what kind of player I am,” said Febres.
He continued, “I am focused on my ball handling and being able to create my own shot. I have always been able to shoot the ball, but I want to show I can do more than just hit catch and shoot threes.”
When it comes to his recruitment, Febres said, “I have Rice, Boise State, UTEP, Houston, and Tulane right now recruiting me the hardest. Some other schools like Baylor, TCU, and Auburn are recruiting me.”
He continued, “I haven’t made any official visits, but I have been to Houston and Rice. Also I made it to Baylor but they haven’t offered me yet.”
The Houston Cougars are working to keep Febres close to home, and they have made sure to make a good impression when they had him on campus.
“Houston was really nice,” said Febres. “They have a new facility and the players have 24/7 access to the gym which is really good. Also all of the coaches seem like great guys.”
Currently Febres doesn’t have a specific timetable for a decision, but he does have a good idea of what he is looking for in a school.
“I am looking for a place with a good education and somewhere that the coaches will work hard to help me get my game better,” he explained.
