He plays both basketball and football, and 6-6, 240-lb. power forward/defensive end Darren Fells from Fullerton, Calif., said which sport he plays will probably be determined by the best scholarship offer he gets. He says a Pac-10 school has offered for one sport...

Darren Fells, 6-6 SR PF, Fullerton (Calif.) High, is a very intriguing athlete, in two sports.

Fells, since last spring, has lost some weight, trimming down from probably 260ish to 240. It's increased his athleticism and quickness considerably.

In basketball, he's one of the best, unknown frontcourt players in Southern California. He's very good at using his big body around the basket, but has a good skill set, able to score with a variety of solid post moves. He plays hard, and is technically good, getting rebounds from strength as well as position.

In football last season Fells said he played defensive end for Fullerton primarily and had 12 sacks. Having trimmed down, you'd have to think that Fells would be even better during his senior football season.

"I like both sports," Fells said. "I really don't know which one I'd like to play. I probably like basketball a little better. I'm probably looking to play basketball, but if I had a good senior season in football and get more offers, I'd play football. I'll probably take the best scholarship I can get and if that's a football scholarship, I'd do that."

In football, Fells said he's received scholarship offers from Arizona and Wyoming, and has heard from many west coast programs, including most of the Pac-10.

In basketball, he's getting recruited by UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton.

Fells said he has a 3.1 GPA and scored a solid 900 on the SAT.
