West Coast Rankings: 2004 PFs

Josh Heytvelt, DeVon Hardin, Maarty Leunen and Lorenzo Mata are among the top players in a deep class of 2004 power forwards...

The power forward spot is extremely deep this year, with mid major prospects beyond the top 15 list. Heytvelt has all the tools to be a big-time college player. Great frame, moves real well and shoots it deep. He needs to work on staying focused, but when he comes to play he's an elite talent. Mata has improved tremendously in the last year and he still has a significant upside. He's a very good shot blocker and rebounder, and his offensive skills are showing development. Hardin isn't real skilled yet, but his ceiling is extremely high. He's got a great body and very good athleticism. He's still learning how to play, but he should be a very nice player in a couple years. Leunen is more of a forward than pure power forward, with the ability to step away from the basket and play on the perimeter. He's just an average athlete, but he does have a nice frame and a very good feel for the game. Hernandez is another guy who has a small forward's game on offense, but probably has to defend the four. His ball skills have really improved in the last year and he knocks down shots consistently from beyond the stripe.
