The Houston Defenders are one of the top teams on the Under Armour Association, and at the Finals Maxwell Evans got off to a big start. Evans, who is a talented combo guard, was absolutely tremendous on Wednesday night and spoke about his busy recruitment.
“I think I have been playing well on both defense and offense,” said Evans of July. “I just try to step on the court and give it my best.”
He continued, “I have tried to work on being a leader on the court. Most of all I want to get my teammates involved and just help us win.”
On the recruiting trail numerous teams have made sure to prioritize and be at nearly all of Evans’ games this July.
“Houston, Purdue, Wake Forest, Kansas, Kansas State, Boise State, and New Mexico have all really been watching me,” said Evans.
Recently Evans made an unofficial visit to Houston, and he said the Cougars are doing a good job of trying to convince him to stay close to home.
“Their message to me has just been to stay home and play in front of family and be a local legend and stuff like that,” said Evans of Houston. “I like the coaches there and the new facilities are real nice.”
When it comes to Purdue, Phillips said, “They say they love me and love the way I play. They say they are going to watch me a lot this July, and that I would fit in well at their school.”
Kansas State has recruited the state of Texas a lot under Bruce Weber, and the Wildcats continue their strong pursuit of Evans.
“They already offered and they told me to come to Kansas State and that I would fit in on defense and offense,” said Evans of Kansas State.
At this point Evans isn’t sure what schools he will visit in August, but he does know what factors will be important for him in making a decision.
“Most important for me is the education and also a place where I feel the coach treats me like family,” said Evans.
