Most of the attention for We R 1 goes to five-star elite point guard Trevon Duval. There is no doubt that Duval is a tremendous player, but on Thursday it was Eric Ayala who stole the show. Ayala led We R 1 to two huge wins, first over the Indy Hoosiers and then over DC Premier.
“I think I have been playing good this July,” said Ayala. “I started at the UA All-American Camp, and it was a good experience to play in front of the coaches, and I am just trying to get better.”
He continued, “I am working on everything. I am trying to change my body and get stronger. I think the next step in my game is being more aggressive on the defensive end.”
A large group of coaches were tracking Ayala all through the day.
When asked about his recruitment, Ayala said, “Kansas, UConn, California, Maryland, Cincinnati, Providence, Miami, Seton Hall, Ohio State, there have been a lot of schools.”
Recently Ayala hasn’t had a chance to make any unofficial visits, but during the school year he checked out both Providence and Connecticut.
About Providence, he said, “I liked Providence a lot. They have a lot to offer, and one of our We R 1 guys, Ben Bentil, went there so there is a connection.”
When it comes to UConn he responded, “I like UConn. I have been there a few times and they produce good guards, so it is good with them.”
At this point Ayala says that he isn’t close to make a decision, but he does know what will be important to him when it becomes time to pick a school.
“I want to go somewhere that I can learn and have a good relationship with the coach so I can grow as a player and a person,” said Ayala.null
