5-star PF Joey Hauser breaks down Marquette, Wisconsin, MSU & others

MEQUON, Wisc. -- 2018 forward Joey Hauser has become a priority recruit for schools in the North and Midwest. The talented prospect talked to Scout about his summer and broke down the schools he's taken visits to.

One of the top rated 2018 prospects at the NY2LA Summer Jam was rising junior Joey Hauser.

Hauser, a 6-foot-8 skilled forward, played on a loaded Iowa Barnstormers team that reeled in a host of head coaches assistants every time they took the floor at the events host gym, Mequon (Wisc.) Homestead.

It’s easy to see why Hauser is such a popular attraction. At his size, Hauser is skilled and has a versatile attack. He’s a good shooter from distance, has an impressive feel for the game and is equipped to score on the block or facing the rim.

Already regarded as a five-star prospect, plus having a brother that signed with Marquette last year, it’s no surprise that college coaches have been actively pursuing the Stevens Point (Wisc.) High standout.

“I’ve really known what to do with it because I watched my brother go through the process,” Hauser said.

Which schools are heavily recruiting him?

"Wisconsin, Marquette, Northern IowaVirginia and Michigan State," Hauser said

“I’ve visited Marquette, Michigan State and Wisconsin,” he added.

Hauser broke down his interest in each of the three schools he’s visited:

Marquette: “I know them really well with my brother going there. It’s a great school. It’s a basketball school. So that makes it more appealing. I just really love Marquette.”

Wisconsin: “Growing up they were my dream school when I was younger. It’s the state school. Everyone loves Wisconsin and I love what coach Gard is doing. Now that I know that coach Gard is going to be there instead of maybe Bo Ryan or somebody else, I really like that.” Michigan State: “It was a really cool visit. I really like the campus. Coach Izzo is one of the most friendly guys you’ll meet. It doesn’t matter who you are. That was a really special trip.”

Hauser also mentioned interest from Notre Dame, Indiana, Arizona and Baylor.

When asked about a timeframe for making his college choice, Hauser said “Probably next year.”
