Four-star combo guard David Beatty had a strong showing for Philly Pride at the Under Armour Finals. The tough and aggressive Beatty put up big scoring numbers, and proved to be someone who coaches tracked closely. With a list of eight, Beatty is now heading down the homestretch of his recruitment.
“July has gone pretty well,” said Beatty. “We could have won a few more games, but individually I am trying to carry my team and do everything I can.”
Recently Beatty cut his list to UCLA, Maryland, Georgetown, Indiana, Connecticut, Virginia, La Salle, and Temple. While that list isn’t 100 percent final, Beatty wanted things at a manageable number heading into July.
“I got together with my family and my coaches and they told me I shouldn’t have all of the coaches blowing up my phone,” said Beatty. “They told me to narrow it down to the schools I really like, and that’s what I did. I’m still open to other schools, but I like those eight schools.”
Recently Beatty made unofficial visits to Maryland and Connecticut.
About Maryland, Beatty said, “Maryland is a good basketball school. They breed guards. Coach (Mark) Turgeon is a great coach, and they do a great job of developing their guards. Every guard who has went there has gotten better, so I like that.”
When it comes to Connecticut, he said, “It was a good visit. They have good facilities and a nice campus. The coaches say the fans and everybody around make it a home, and I liked that.”
While those were unofficial visits, Beatty does know one school he definitely wants to make an official to in August.
“I will have a couple of visits in August,” he explained. “I don’t know what dates, but I plan to make visits in August, and I know I definitely want to visit Indiana.”
About the Hoosiers, Beatty said, “I like their coaching staff. They are cool and down to earth people. They seem into it to help me and my future, so I like that.”
For now Beatty is focused on finishing July out strong, and soon will begin coming to his decision on where he wants to attend school.
