Four-star forward Justin Smith has consistently brought out coaches all spring and summer long. Finishing things out and Las Vegas was no different as Smith had a large group of coaches watching him at two different events.
“I think I’ve been playing well and with more confidence,” said Smith of July. “I have just been playing my game and it has been working so far.”
About the coaches he has noticed watching, Smith said, “Xavier, Wisconsin, Stanford, Michigan, Illinois, Villanova, Indiana, Wake Forest, and a couple of others have been at my games and talking to me a lot.”
Stanford has always been a school mentioned prominently with Smith because he is a tremendous student.
About the Cardinal, he said, “It is a great academic school. If I went there I would be set regardless of basketball. It is a new coaching that is young and it is really exciting. It is a school I want to get out and visit and see what it is like.”
So far Smith only has one visit set up, and it is to Michigan.
“It is a great academic school,” said Smith of Michigan. “Coach (John) Beilein and the coaching staff do a great job of preparing their players for the next level and they are always a good team. I am visiting there on August 14.”
One school with a connection to Smith is Villanova. Smith and Jalen Brunson were teammates for two years in high school, and Brunson is telling him good things about the school.
“They are telling me that they like the way I have progressed and how I keep getting better,” said Smith. “Of course I have a connection with them through Jalen, so we will see how that goes.”
A school that Smith has already been down to see is Indiana, and the Hoosiers continue to make a strong impression on Smith.
“They offered me early,” said Smith of the Hoosiers. “They have been involved for a long time, and Coach (Tom) Crean and his coaching staff always have a good team and have done a great job in the past developing their players.”
Also Smith said he is very interested in making the trip to check out Xavier.
“I talk to them a lot,” noted Smith. “It is a school that I want to go down and visit. We stay in constant contact and I want to see what it is about down there.”
For now Michigan is the only visit set, but he plans on making a lot of trips during the month of August.
