One of the breakout performers of the first couple days in Las Vegas has come from Norcross (Ga.) Meadowcreek in Joseph Toppins.
The 6-foot-5, 175-pound wing has long arms, is athletic, can get to the basket with his handle and also has good vision.
“I’m a slasher who can go to the rack and get buckets around the rim,” Toppins said. “I rebound and can hit midrange jumpers. I need to work on moving my range outside to the three-point line.”
Tennessee: “I like the weather there. The atmosphere there is cool; I like their program. Coach (Rick) Barnes is a cool guy.”
Georgia: “I live in Georgia and I like the Atlanta weather. I’m learning about their program still.”
Mississippi State: “I need to visit there. They offered me recently so I’m learning about the state and the campus.”
Tulane: “They came to my school and have offered me but I need to take a trip there.”
Location will play a big role in Toppins’ decision.
“I want something close to home,” he said. “Probably in Georgia, Tennessee or Florida. I want to stay close to my mom.”
