Five-star power forward Jalen Smith rebounded from a slightly down spring to have a tremendous month of June. He was solid again at the Fab 48 helping his team to a big win, and now Smith continues to hear from college coaches.
“I’ve been playing well,” said Smith of July. “I can probably do better, but overall it has been good. We are playing well as a team, and just executing well.”
He continued, “I am just working on getting stronger, rebounding better, and just being more physical as a basketball player.”
On the recruiting trail a lot of coaches are keeping in close contact with Smith.
“There are a lot of schools, Syracuse, Villanova, Georgetown, Maryland, Penn State, Arizona, and a lot more,” he said.
Penn State actually dispatched four coaches, including Head Coach Patrick Chambers, to see Smith on Friday morning. Overall Penn State has been very aggressive recruiting Smith.
“They tell me to keep working hard to be very aggressive,” said Smith of Penn State. “They are recruiting me hard, and they already have one of my AAU teammates, so that is big.”
Another school that has been a very consistent presence at his games is Maryland. The Terrapins continue to do everything they can to land a commitment from the in-state star.
“They are just looking for me to be able to come in and be a major factor, and just help the team win games, so I like Maryland a lot,” he explained.
For now Smith is in no hurry to make a college decision, and he does want to learn as much as he can about all of the schools recruiting.
