Asumnu Says He's Open
Shooting guard Stanley Asumnu is a determined young man. First and foremost, he's working on achieving the test score that eluded him last year. He's also focused on becoming a better basketball player.
"Hargrave is a good situation for me," Asumnu said. "I'm concentrating on the test score and just working hard." At a recent Hargrave workout, it was apparent that his best basketball days are ahead of him. He appears to be much stronger and more athletic than he showed during his high school career.
His game off the dribble is improved. He's attacking the rim but still hasn't lost his touch from deep, especially to 3-point range. "He loves the drills," Hargrave coach Mike Preston said. "He's our hardest worker and he pushes everyone. I think he's our best defender."
As for his recruitment, Asumnu lists three schools but says that he's open. Wisconsin and Oklahoma were in line to fight it out to sign him last year had he qualified. Now, Texas has jumped into the mix for the former Houston (TX) Westbury Christian standout. Last year, he visited both Wisconsin and Oklahoma and has already been to Texas as well so making official visits isn't that important to him.
Just by watching him workout, you can see that he's very serious about his basketball game. He's dunking everything in workouts and his pump fakes are more crisp and effective than the rest of his teammates. He's simply very focused and could very well wind up flourishing in Hargrave's fast-paced offense this season.
