Ohio State lands in-state stars Darius Bazley and Justin Ahrens

Ohio State got good news on Saturday with the addition of a pair of in-state forwards in the 2018 class.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have clearly made in-state recruiting a focus in the class of 2018. Already they had Dane Goodwin committed, and on Saturday a pair of new commitments came into the fold from Darius Bazley and Justin Ahrens.

Both Bazley and Ahrens play together for the King James Shooting Stars. Each is listed as a small forward, but their games are very different. Bazley is an athletic combo forward with elite upside while Ahrens is a big time shooter who plays solely on the wing.

For the duo it was their comfort with Ohio State and the staff that made the difference.

“It just felt like home,” said Ahrens of Ohio State. “I loved everything about the campus and the coaches. Also I get to represent my home state which is a dream come true.”

For his part Bazley said, “I flat out loved it. I loved the campus, Ohio State is like its own city. You can’t beat the combination of athletics and academics.”

Bazley continued, “I thought there was no better place to do great things than playing for Coach Matta and Ohio State. The entire coaching staff made me feel comfortable. I felt I could be real around them, and growing up in Ohio I just wanted to represent what being a Buckeyes looks like and acts like.”

For his part Ahrens says that the duo also liked the idea of committing at the same time.

“Darius is like a brother to me, so we decided to commit together which was great,” said Ahrens.

This is a fast start for Ohio State as they begin to re-focus on being a force recruiting within the Buckeye State.
