Connecticut has a long history of point guards, and they added another high level one on Monday. Following his official visit to the school, Makai Ashton-Langford picked the Huskies over fellow New England school, Providence. Ashton-Langford was one of the top performers all summer with the Mass Rivals, and now he is headed to Storrs.
"Yes, Makai has committed to Connecticut," said Vin Pastore of the Mass Rivals.
Ashton-Langford averaged an impressive 15.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game for Mass Rivals this summer, and was a huge key in them dominating the adidas Gauntlet. Known for his toughness, athleticism, and ability to get to the rim, Ashton-Langford gives the Huskies a major weapon on both the offensive and defensive end.
Currently Ashton-Langford rates as a four-star prospect and the No. 32 player overall in the country. He has potential to be an elite defender in time, and if he can improve as an outside shooter the sky is the limit for his potential.
This is the first commitment for Kevin Ollie and his staff in this class. It gives them a great start and one of the best overall talents at the point guard position in the class. Ashton-Langford will join high level guards Jalen Adams and Alterique Gilbert on what looks to be a very impressive backcourt for the Huskies.
