Branden Carlson

Scout's 69th ranked 2017 prospect, Branden Carlson down to four

Branden Carlson, Scout's 69th ranked prospect in 2017, is down to four. The four-center has also set official visits to all of his finalists.

Branden Carlson has narrowed down his recruitment to four and has set up official visits to all of his finalists.

Carlson, Scout's 69th ranked 2017 prospect, is a 6-foot-10, 210-pound center from South Jordan (Utah) Bingham, who made terrific strides in his game over the spring and summer.

The four-star prospect told Scout that his final four is BYU, which he'll visit on Sept. 16, Utah, which he'll visit on Sept. 23, UCLA, which he'll visit on Sept. 30 and Stanford, which he'll visit on Oct. 6.

UCLA is the newest school on that list, and Carlson says he's looking forward to getting a better feel for the Bruins program.

"I haven't been able to meet the coaches in person yet, but I know they have a good history of bigs going to the league," Carlson said. "I'm excited to see their facilities and campus when I go on my visit."

Carlson recently broke down his other three finalists with Scout.

Stanford: "Good academic school. I like the coaches there and it's the Pac-12."

BYU: "I've always liked BYU. I like coach (Dave) Rose and (Tim) LaComb."

Utah: "I love coach K (Larry Krystkowiak). I feel like he's going to help my game get better as a big and get me to the league."

Carlson has good size and length for the position and a terrific motor. He thrives in transition due to his speed getting up and down the court, while he's shown the ability to face up and post up opposing centers.

He will need to get stronger and keep adding to his skill set, but still has plenty of time, as technically he's a 2019 prospect due to his plans of taking a two-year LDS mission after high school.
