"It felt like home," Batts said. "It felt like family. I love it there and wanted be apart of it."
Batts, a 6-foot-2 wiry guard out of Concord (N.C.) Jay M Robinson, picked the Rams over Clemson.
"Clemson is a nice school, I just know that VCU is going to make a me a better player and a better man," Batt said.
Known for his blazing speed, quickness and intensity on the court, Batts fits the mold of a VCU guard.
"It went together," he said. "Just the way they play and the way I play is a perfect fit."
Through 22 games playing for Team CP3 in the Nike EYBL, Batts averaged 11.8 points and and 3.6 assists.
Batts, who is regarded as the No. 27 point guard, is VCU's first pledge of the 2017 class.
