Q&A with five-star Troy Brown

Five-star 2017 recruit Troy Brown took his first two official visits to Ohio State and Alabama over the past two weekends. Scout caught up with Brown for a Q&A that recaps those trips and discuss the next steps in his recruiting process.

Evan Daniels: How was your official visit to Ohio State?
Troy Brown: The Ohio State visit was great. That was the first time that I got to be on campus and the first time I got to see everything. That was my first time that I actually got to meet the staff. They seem like great people.

What was their pitch to you?
They were talking about how they have the guys to do what they need to do this year. They have some older players and they think I can come in and be the starting point guard that can get stuff done and make things happen.

Did the visit change your opinion about OSU in anyway? Positively or negatively?
I would say it changed positively. I really enjoyed being down there. That was the first time I got to be on campus and experience everything.

Was there any one thing that stood out in your mind that you liked about the trip?
I would just say the guys that were down there. I loved being around the guys and hanging out with them. I could be myself around them and had a really good comfort level talking to them.

How was the trip to Alabama this past weekend?
I kind of grew a little bit more and learned just seeing the school and everything and being around everybody.

What all did you do while you were there?
The first day I got there they showed me around the facility. I met all the trainers and talked to them. Then I went to academic advisors and talked to them too. Then they took me to the broadcasting/communications center because that’s what I want to major in. We ended up doing a talk show with coach Avery [Johnson] and I was interviewing him and asking him questions. The next day we went to the football and after the football game I hung out with the team.

What did you like most about the trip?
I would have to say the whole staff. They have a great staff down there. I felt comfortable asking questions and talking to each and every one of them.

Collin Sexton was on his official to Alabama while you were there. Both of you are guards that can play on and off the ball, did they map out how you all would mesh if you both went there?
Not all at once, but they explained to me how it works. Me and Collin understand what they are trying to do anyways because of the fact that we can switch off and alternate on and off the ball. Personally, I think Collin scores the ball better than I do, so I would say he would be more of the two guard and then if he gets it I would run the two. We would just switch off and we both understand how that would be played.

So what’s the next step from here? Do you have the same three officials set up?
Yeah I still have the same three visits. I actually have three in-home visits coming up. Tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday. I know Georgetown is coming in on Monday. Cal is coming in on Tuesday and then Oregon is trying to come in on Wednesday, but we aren’t 100-percent sure if they are going to make it or not. We don’t know the set date.

Just to refresh, what are the dates for your next three official visits?
Oregon is September 23rd to the 25th. Then Kansas is September 30th to the 2nd and then Georgetown is the 5th to the 8th.

So is your list now at six?
My list is actually at eight, because I set my five official visits, people automatically assume I cut my list to five.

Have you set a timeframe on making a choice or are you just feeling it out?
I would say I’m feeling it out. I’m most likely going to decide in November, because with this process it’s time for me to hurry up and make a decision and then just start getting in the gym and focus on becoming a college player.
