Josh Carlton is off the board to Connecticut

Three-star prospect Josh Carlton decided he only needed one official visit before making a decision.

2017 recruit Josh Carlton verbally committed to Connecticut he tells Scout.

Carlton, a 6-foot-9, 235-pound post player, picked the Huskies over Xavier, Clemson, Memphis and Georgetown. Carlton took an official visit to UConn the weekend of August 27th.

"I am officially committed to Connecticut," Carlton told

About his decision, Carlton said it came down to the head coach and the program's winning tradition.

"I just really liked the coaching staff, especially Coach (Kevin) Ollie," said Carlton. "The fact that it is a championship program really made me want to pick them and be a part of the program.

He also saw Georgetown’s campus multiple times unofficially. He was scheduled to visit Clemson and Xavier the next weekends, but opted to cancel the trip.

Carlton is a standout at Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic. He joins four-star prospect Makai Ashton-Langford in Connecticut's 2017 class.
