One of the West Coast’s top centers in 2018 comes from San Mateo (Calif.) Serra in Jack Wilson.
The 7-foot, 250-pound post is Scout’s 91st ranked player in the class. He’s got very good size, wide shoulders, is mobile and has developing post moves.
“I’m a true center and I feel like there’s not a lot of those,” Wilson said. “I’m a low post scorer, I rebound, am a rim protector and I play hard.
“I’m working on my athleticism, quickness, getting up and down the court faster and polishing my post moves. My athleticism has gotten a lot better and I’m playing above the rim.”
While Wilson says he’s completely open – “I’m keeping my options open; it’s not like I know where I want to commit,” he said – the Cal and Nevada offers stood out to him.
“It’s the Pac-12,” Wilson said of Cal. “My visit there was great. The coaching staff is great, coach (Tim) O’Toole in particular. Also coach (Cuonzo) Martin and the staff are all great guys.
“I liked Nevada also. That was most recent and I loved the visit there. I really like the whole coaching staff and campus.”
Wilson has a pretty good idea of what he’ll be looking for in a school.
“I’m going for the best fit no matter where it is,” he said. “I want an overall great experience; somewhere I’ll fit in on the court and in classroom.”
