Halbert Examining Options
6-6 swingman Jeff Halbert of White Bear Lake is hearing from William & Mary, Cornell, Ohio U. and Boston University. He has a visit set up with Ohio U. for the weekend of Sept. 29.
"I don't really have a top list right now," Halbert said. Recently, he began hearing from UConn and Colorado who have shown some interest but the interest level of each program is not yet clear.
While Halbert will take some visits, he's going to be sure to save a few trips for later in the fall period just in case a few schools he'd be interested move forward in their pursuit of him. "I'd like to sign early," Halbert said. "Even though a school might say if you wait things can happen but they also could not happen."
Last year, Halbert averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds. With 1,303 career points, he's already the all-time leading scorer at his high school. In case you were wondering, Joel McDonald (3,292 points) from Chisholm is the all-time leading scorer in Minnesota state history and current Iowa State guard Jake Sullivan is No. 2.
While basketball is certainly important, make no mistake about it, Halbert's looking at the big picture. "I'd like to be able to fall back on something and graduate from a good school and get a good degree."
